The Ark Season 2 Trailer Sets Up More Action & New Mysteries

The Ark is returning to SYFY with a brand new season, and Screen Rant has a first look at the trailer. First debuting in 2023, The Ark is an ambitious sci-fi show created by Dean Devlin, who serves as a co-showrunner on the series alongside Jonathan Glassner. The show’s second season continues to follow the would-be colonists on the ship Ark One as they leave a devastated Earth behind and look for a new home in the stars. With The Ark season 1 ending on a surprising alliance and a tantalizing cliffhanger, The Ark season 2 trailer can hint at where things will pick up when the show returns.

Screen Rant is excited to debut the first trailer for The Ark season 2. The trailer reveals returning characters like Lt. Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Alicia Nevins (Stacey Michelle Read), and Felix Strickland (Pavle Jenrinic) while also teasing key plot points from the upcoming season. The Ark season 1 won over many science fiction fans thanks to its interesting perspective on a nomadic future for humanity. The second season aims to do the same while also raising the bar for the series overall. As hinted at in the trailer, the show will attempt to do this by introducing surprising new characters, planets, and plot points. Co-showrunners Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner offered some information as to what viewers can expect:

Dean Devlin: Season 2 will begin with the discovery of a planet that may already have been colonized. Now our crew has true hope of a new beginning, if only they can get there.

Jonathan Glassner: Our crew will confront some familiar enemies, some fascinating new ones, and some strong new allies on our way to a fresh start at a recently discovered planetary home. [We will learn] more secrets about our crew, and the history behind the Ark Program will spill.

The showrunners also teased “mind-bending” science fiction concepts to come in season 2. While how some of science fiction’s most beloved tropes could come into play is speculation, the reappearance of Ark 3 (the location of more than one tragic event in The Ark season 1) in the trailer could be proof of surprising sci-fi developments. Devlin and Glassner said the following on the subject:

Dean Devlin: The Ark expands into some really fascinating science fiction possibilities. Prepare for a more imaginative and mind-bending season.

Jonathan Glassner: Along the way we'll encounter and explore some fascinating sci-fi concepts.

Another exciting promise from the showrunners is that The Ark season 2 will look and feel like an upgraded version of the first season overall. Even the best sci-fi TV shows often have to make compromises in the realms of production design and VFX due to budgetary and time concerns. According to Devlin, The Ark season 2 has “stepped up” its game in those departments. Here’s what he had to say, even going as far as to tease how a revamped approach has affected the overall structure of the season:

Dean Devlin: We’ve really stepped up our production game. Improved FX, improved set design and graphics and new mind blowing locations. This season is not disaster of the week.

The Ark season 2 premieres July 17 at 10/9c on SYFY.
