‘One Big Happy Family’ Trailer: Linda Lavin’s Final Film Set To Headline Miami Jewish Film Festival In January
Deadline has the trailer for One Big Happy Family, a comedy marking the final film of Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Linda Lavin. It is set to world premiere as the headliner for the Miami Jewish Film Festival in January.
In addition to writing and producing, Lisa Brenner (Say My Name) stars as Rachel, who on her 40th birthday is busy planning her eldest daughter’s bat mitzvah — complete with all the chaos that entails. Having nearly forgotten that she and her friend submitted their DNA for results months ago, she is taken by surprise when the response arrives in the mail. To her dismay, it reveals that the man she has revered for the past 40 years is not her biological father. As other “new” relatives are informed of the results, her phone begins buzzing with a flurry of unsolicited notifications.
Rachel gains new siblings every day — of every ethnicity and every career path possible. Questioning her identity, she decides to go on a pilgrimage with her mother, Lenore (Lavin), to find her “real” father, a journey that takes them from a shady private eye to an inept gynecologist and an ex-con tattoo artist half-brother. The voyage culminates in an emotional apex that threatens the indestructible bond between Rachel and Lenore.
Inspired by Brenner’s real-life experiences, the film slated for distribution by Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment is directed by Emmy nominee Matt Sohn (The Office). Brenner produced alongside Grace Lay of LinLay Productions, with Steve Lee exec producing.
A beloved actress known for her Emmy-nominated role in the 1976 sitcom Alice and for her Tony-winning performance in the 1986 play Broadway Bound, Lavin died December 29 at age 87 due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer, her PR rep told Deadline. The news came as a shock, as Lavin had only recently been promoting her new Netflix series No Good Deed.
Her final TV project will be the forthcoming Hulu comedy series Mid-Century Modern, created by David Kohan & Max Mutchnick and Ryan Murphy, in which she stars alongside Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham.
