Seth MacFarlane to Receive Robert Forster Artist’s Honor at 51st Saturn Awards
Seth MacFarlane will receive the Robert Forster Artist’s Award at the 51st annual Saturn Awards, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films announced on Tuesday. The event, to be hosted by Joel McHale on Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. PT, will stream live on ElectricNow. William Shatner is set to present MacFarlane with the award.
The creator behind hits like “Family Guy” and “American Dad,” MacFarlane has won five Emmys— four of which make him the tied record-holder for the most voiceover Emmy wins — as well as five Grammy nominations and an Oscar nomination. MacFarlane is also a jazz standards performer who has released several albums, and is the creator/star of the live-action sci-fi series “The Orville.”
“Seth is a multi-talented entertainer who continues to leave an indelible mark on the community as a whole. His unique style and ability to blend humor with social commentary across a multitude of genres have made him a household name. We are truly honored to bestow this very special award to him,” Academy president Robert Holguin and Saturn Awards producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus said in a joint statement.
Through MacFarlane’s production company Fuzzy Door, the producer’s most recent project is the new Peacock series “Ted,” based on the film of the same title. Additionally, his animated Fox series “Family Guy” turns 25 this year. He also created, executive produced and starred in Hulu’s Emmy-nominated live-action space adventure series “The Orville,” which originally aired on Fox.
The Robert Forster Artist’s Award is given to “an innovative trailblazer for their body of work and impact on the entertainment industry,” per the release. Christopher Lloyd (“Back to the Future”) was the first recipient of the award, while Bob Odenkirk and the cast of “Better Call Saul” received the award last year.
