As a prolific writer and producer of science-fiction television and films, Dean Devlin has quite the resumé. He wrote 1990s features Universal Soldier, Stargate and Independence Day, working together with celebrated director Roland Emmerich.
These days, CEO and chairman of Los Angeles based Electric Entertainment, his TV credits include The Librarians, The Outpost, Leverage and new series The Ark for Syfy.
Electric has carved out a keen relationship with Amazon, with several shows going out via the Freevee ad-supported streaming service, while at the same time the firm has launched its own FAST channels.
Devlin was at Mipcom in Cannes last week and spoke to C21 there about these developments, the changing nature of the distribution landscape, the US writers and actors’ strikes and the use of artificial intelligence.
