Almost Paradise: Listen to an Exclusive Track From Fred Coury’s Soundtrack

The score—a mix of rock (Coury is the drummer for the multi-platinum rock band Cinderella), and island instruments, reflects both the nonstop action of the series as well as the fun and colorful aspects of the setting. “Dean [Devlin] told me about a new show that he was doing and told me he’d like me to score it,” explained Coury. “He wanted a ‘rock’ heavy score for the action/fight scenes. I asked how ‘rock’ and he said, ‘make it heavy.’ I incorporated island instruments and tried to lean into Filipino instruments but use them in different ways than we’re used to hearing them. Once Dean heard/saw a few pieces, he let me run with it. I try to use as many ‘real’ instruments as possible. The show is pretty much wall-to-wall music and it’s so much fun to watch. I just had a blast creating this score.”

When life-threatening hypertension forces US DEA agent Alex Walker (Christian Kane) into early retirement, he decides to move to a tranquil deserted beach he remembered visiting in the Philippines many years ago. But when he arrives, he discovers that in the interim dozens of luxury resorts have been built, filling this once-secluded island with jet skis, honeymooners, screaming children…and the rich and famous criminals of the world. Against doctor’s orders, Alex finds himself drawn into cases where he uses his skills as a longtime operative to put away the bad guys that cross his path.
